A proposal for a decolonial interpretation of the figure of Scheherazade and The Thousand and One Nights
Abstract
The study of these two moments of dispossession and Eurocentric reconstruction of Sahrazad can occur from several fronts: there are many valuable studies on Sahrazad and on The Thousand and One Nights, however, what we are interested in taking up here is the critical perspective and the historical account. -cultural issues raised by the Moroccan sociologist Fátima Mernissi, who dedicated an entire work to the analysis of how Sahrazad has been conceived along with the figure of the harem outside the Middle East.
From our perspective, Moroccan Fátima Mernissi and Fátima Mernissi can contribute to the decolonialization of the image of Sahrazad; whose release might seem banal as a fictional heroine, however, let us not be fooled by her imagined existence. Behind Sahrazad's decolonization, as is the objective of this text, is also the liberation of Muslim women from the violent colonialist tokenization.
