Abstract
The impact of the ideas and actions of the human species on the global ecosystem and the various economic, social and political problems that this interaction has generated have been the subject of several reflections in different social disciplines. According to data provided by the UN (2016), the damage caused to the various ecosystems in the world has already reached a critical level and the population of the planet is expected to reach a figure close to 9,800 million individuals by 2050. The challenges have been met with various strategies in the institutions and organizations that integrate the educational field at different levels: curricular adjustments, incorporation of transversal axes, training processes and in some cases, reforms of the models themselves. Regarding the environmental problem, multiple proposals or alternatives of action have been generated from the different disciplines over the last decades, based on diverse philosophical references. By their very origin, these proposals emphasize specific characteristics or dimensions of the environmental problem to the detriment of other factors involved, thus demonstrating the need to address their attention from a joint perspective. Sustainable development, proposed by the United Nations Organization in 1972, is considered, in this paper, as a catalytic formula among all intentions of change due to its intermediate positioning between biocentrism and anthropocentrism and conservationism and radicalism promoted by diverse visions.
