The thematic configuration in two short stories of the Mexican Revolution
Abstract
This article suggests a thematic analysis of two short stories: “… Y ultimadamente…” and “Las sandías”, from the proposal of Russian formalism through one of its most significant representatives, Boris Tomachevski. The elements that this author considers essential for the analysis, and of which the paragraphs below account, are: the determination of the theme of each text, relationships between theme and causal-temporal link, interests between the characters, fable, plot, motives, character, among others. Consequently, the thematization of two stories will be evident from the observation of their formal elements. The unity between each one guarantees thematic coherence.
Also, according to the critic José Sánchez Carbó, unlike the novel, the other narrative subgenres developed on the Mexican Revolution have received little attention, which shows the need for the analysis proposed here.
