For the physicist all the transformations that occur in the gross matter are due only to a mechanical game, to the movement, that is to say, to a displacement of the atoms and molecules in the space.

This explanation for the phenomena of the physical world appears intelligible by its simplicity. But what is difficult to understand, what constitutes a rather arduous problem is the interpretation and explanation of the phenomena of the spiritual world and its relations with the material world. It is necessary to explain, for example, the influence of the body on the spirit, and vice versa; The action of our will upon our members; The sensation of pain as a result of a puncture, and all other phenomena of consciousness, in the first place of thought.
