Solidarity Deficit
the Case of Queer Palestine
Abstract
Outside of Palestine, there is a tendency to call out the supposed hypocrisy implied in opposing Israeli military occupation whilst being a member of the LGBTQ+ community. This article analyzes this problem from a philosophical, queer studies and decolonial standpoint. To begin with, the author reviews the role that the occupation (Israel) plays in the creation of a non existent other (Palestine) in the global imagination. The second part further elaborates the topic of the political creation of an “other” with an emphasis on sexuality. Finally, the author delves into an examination of the strategies that “western” countries use to present themselves as the pinnacle of human rights. The conclusion proposes that the three social, philosophical and political phenomena described result in what the author calls “inclusion perspective”.
