Significación en torno a la danza de los chuchinas en el municipio de Huitiupán, Chiapas

Abstract

This article shows the progress of an investigation belonging to the Masters in Cultural Studies program, in Universidad Autónoma de Chiapas, which subject embodies the dance of the Chuchinas as a cultural manifestation in the town of Huitiupan, Chiapas. This dance is performed mostly by children, boys and girls who come out to the streets to do it, and in return they receive presents or cash. The debate is mostly around an analysis of the concept of ritual and performance to give answers to the problem of meaning given to this ritual by the people of the town. This dance is performed every year during the catholic tradition of “miércoles de ceniza”, or wednesday’s ash.
