Dissent, emotionality and argumentative training

towards the development of skills for critical discussion in upper secondary school youth

Abstract

This article focuses on a reflective presentation of the progress of a research program that has been developing through two interconnected research projects. In their operational phase, these correspond to the stages of "Diagnosis" and "Design of an Intervention Proposal" using the Participatory Action Research (PAR) methodology. The project entitled "Argumentation at the Upper Secondary Level in Chiapas: Towards a Diagnosis of Training for Critical Discussion," developed during 2024, aimed to diagnose how young people aged 15 to 18 argue in Upper Secondary Education within the subsystems of the General Directorate of Baccalaureate Zone I (Metropolitan) of the State of Chiapas. This has allowed for the establishment of a foundation for evaluating the use of reasoned argumentation through the ideal model of critical discussion from pragmadialectics.

Thus, over four stages, we will present a reasoning process that offers reasons to affirm that: implementing argumentative tools with high school students can enhance the skills that allow them to resolve everyday conflicts and develop critical thinking, based on the recognition of the emotional dimension and the ideal model of critical discussion of pragmadialectics, based on the flexibility of the playful-didactic tool called: the Agreement Game.
